Taking Risk With Photos That Tell Your Story Even Better

By Lois Tuffin

The right words and the right images make all the difference when you are communicating with just the right tone. For starters, you want to capture people's attention so they tune in to hear more.

But where do you find the pictures that speak volumes in a fraction of a second?

Many people use Google and grab the first image they see that they like. However, you could pick a picture that has a copyright that you are violating by adopting it for your website, your social media post, or your publication.

If you don’t want anyone stealing your intellectual property, why would you allow it to happen to someone else?

Copyright law is not a simple matter. There are different rules in different countries and they frequently evolve.. So, what happens when you find the image you want and it was created by a photographer in another nation? You can cross your fingers and hope you don’t get caught.

You can also do the ethical thing and choose images that can be copyright-free if used the right way. There are sites that allow for this type of use.

If you’re shopping around to refresh some of your material, do it legally. I can guide you along the journey.

As a photographer for the past three decades, with awards for my work, I can also help you create the ideal image to convey what you want people to see. And we can do it together with some colour and humour, which is really the fun way to get a job done.

I’m just an email away.

(By the way, this image was shot by a talented photographer who operates with the screen name of Spikeball. I hope you like it!)
